Frequently Asked Questions
Will this program prepare me to start applying adventure and nature-based therapy with my clients?
Adventure Therapy requires a wide range of skill-sets, from group facilitation to outdoor skills, depending on the outdoor modality you are using in your work with clients. This program will be an introduction and stepping stone toward applying adventure therapy with your clients and support you to reimagine your practice in new and creative ways to incorporate nature and adventure into your work. It may also shine light on the skills you already have and the ones you may want to acquire to develop a safe, ethical and well-rounded practice. It will also support you by connecting you to a community of like-minded practitioners. Scope of practice will be discussed and clarified in the Foundations immersion and follow-up group online sessions. We will also offer select teaching modules as short online workshops in 2026 and will share more details after the immersion.
Is this a certification or therapy program?
This is not a certification or therapy program. It is not within the scope of this program to provide in-depth training in group therapy and facilitation, nature and outdoor skills, first aid, or personal mental health support. Instead, the immersion serves as a living example of adventure and nature-based therapy in practice and provides space for participants to reflect, explore, and deepen their approach to this work.
What will the food be like? What if I have dietary restrictions and preferences?
Food is important! For reasons of compassion, ecology and health, the Dharmalaya campus is 100% vegan, meaning it serves 100% plant-based vegetarian food, free from all animal products (eggs, dairy, honey, etc.). We are happy to discuss options for people who have dietary restrictions and preferences over the 1-on-1 call prior to the program.
How do I get to Bir?
To get to Bir, Himachal Pradesh, you have several options. By air, fly to Kangra Airport (Gaggal), the nearest airport, about 70 km from Bir, then hire a taxi or take a bus. By train, the nearest major stations are Pathankot (about 142 km) or Amb Andaura (about 128 km); from there, take a bus or taxi to Bir. By bus, there are several direct overnight Volvo buses from Delhi (ISBT Kashmiri Gate or Majnu Ka Tilla); we recommend Laxmi Holidays or HRTC. Alternatively, take a bus to Dharamshala or Baijnath and then a local bus or taxi to Bir. One month prior, we create a WhatsApp group for travel coordination and taxi sharing.
