Questions we will explore

What does an ethic of care ask of us as facilitators?

01/06

Question 1 of 6

These are some of the questions we will explore in Towards an Ethic of Care: Power, Privilege and the Practice of Facilitation.

Every decision facilitators make— how activities are framed and introduced, who is invited to speak, what knowledge is valued, how choices are offered, and internalised beliefs about what is considered "normal"—shapes people's experiences of being in groups and influences who feels welcome, included, and able to participate.

Whether recognised or not, our facilitation practices are shaped by relationships of power, privilege, identity, culture, and history.

Through experiential learning, dialogue, reflection, and time outdoors, we explore practical frameworks to cultivate facilitation practices that are equitable, relational, and responsive, while examining how our assumptions, identities, and ways of leading influence participation, belonging, learning, and wellbeing.

Co-facilitated by Dr. Denise Mitten and Tanya Ginwala, this workshop brings together decades of experience in ethical outdoor leadership, experiential education, psychology, politicized somatics, and nature-based approaches to healing and learning.
